Site Checks and Tier Evaluations
Petroleum Services
The regulatory method by which suspected releases of registered USTs are investigated is referred to as the Corrective Action Process. Site Checks are generally the first step in determining whether a release has actually occurred at a UST facility. From a regulatory standpoint, Site Checks are usually required within 90-days of a suspected release from such instances as a failed tightness test, discovering that secondary containment is not tight, physical discovery of free product, or a spill/overfill occurrence. SRW has conducted numerous Site Checks for clients wishing to remain in compliance with the state authority, and for clients wishing to complete environmental due diligence during a real estate transaction.
Based on the information obtained in the Site Check, the regulatory authority will issue a No Further Action letter if the release is disproved, or they will require additional investigation if the release is confirmed. In the event that additional investigation is warranted, the owner/operator will move through a series of subsurface investigations, delineations, and response actions. Because the process is bureaucratic and rigorous, SRW is regularly charged with carrying clients’ UST sites through Corrective Action from start to finish. Our clients benefit from the technical expertise of our engineers and other environmental professionals who have successfully completed hundreds of LUST investigations, and subsequently communicated site conditions to receive a No Further Action letter from regulatory officials.
